Selfie with a Senior returns to celebrate Territorian stories and connection
10 Feb 2026

Last year’s winner, Rachel Jericho from Alice Springs celebrated her father’s deep connection to the land that shaped her family’s life.
Territorians of all ages are being encouraged to grab their phones, strike a pose and celebrate the wisdom, stories and spirit of older Territorians as Selfie with a Senior returns for its fourth year.
The popular initiative is part of the Portrait of a Senior Territorian program, organised by Tactile Arts and funded by the Department of People, Sport and Culture. Selfie with a Senior is proudly sponsored by COTA NT, continuing its commitment to promoting positive ageing and intergenerational connection.
COTA NT CEO Sue Shearer said the initiative is a fun and meaningful way to bring generations together while recognising the contributions of senior Territorians.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to capture intergenerational moments between older Territorians and younger ones,” Ms Shearer said. “We encourage everyone to brush up on their selfie skills and approach a senior — it might be a grandparent, an aunt or uncle, a mentor, or even a senior with another senior. Every story matters.”
Participants are asked to submit a selfie along with a short story about the senior featured, highlighting their life, experiences or contribution to the community.
“Senior Territorians have shaped our communities and added richly to the tapestry of our Territory lifestyle,” Ms Shearer said. “This is a chance to recognise someone who deserves a spotlight, or who is simply unique in their own way.”
Past winners of Selfie with a Senior have taken home $1,000, adding an extra incentive to take part. COTA NT is urging Territorians across the Territory to get involved, celebrate older people, and help share the stories that make the Northern Territory special.
So, take a selfie with a senior — and you could be $1,000 richer.
