Here are simple tips to help reduce your power bills, we all know this summer/ wet season has been long, hot, humid and quite frankly draining. One of the easiest ways to keep cool down is to stay inside in the aircon.
Air conditioning
So let’s look at the optimal temperatures to run your A/C.
- Most aircon tradies say its 22°C. On the Jacana website, they suggest running it between 24° C to 27° C and to use the ceiling fans at the same time.
One of the best techniques, I ever used was to cool down the house on 22° C on the cool setting. Then once the temperature came down, to switch over to the dry setting as it sucks the humidity out. Then up the temp to 26°C . This worked efficiently too. - Keep your filter clean, do this regularly if you’re using the A/C lot.
- Set timers in the bedrooms at night to go off in the early hours.
- Shut the doors to rooms that are not in use.
More tips from CoolMob below:
- Check all windows and doors are properly closed and well sealed. Buy door strips/draught stoppers to prevent cool air escaping from your air conditioned rooms and have good insulation.
- Check the air conditioner is not in the sun. Have air conditioners fitted to a shaded wall area or try to create shade so the air entering the air conditioner is cool. That way the air conditioner does not have to work so hard to cool your air. covers
Laundry
- Wash clothes in cold water instead of hot water and use a shorter cycle if it’s not a heavily soiled load.
Fridges
- If you are running a second fridge and it doesn’t have much in it consider emptying what contents into the house fridge and turn it until you need it again.
Dishwashers
- Use the economy cycle on the dishwasher.
- Make sure it’s full before using it.
Appliances
- Switch non-essential items in the PowerPoint when not in use.
- Avoid having any appliances on standby.
